What is corrosion?
When a metal corrodes, it breaks down due to chemical reactions caused by the surrounding environment. It manifests itself in the form of the metal getting a porous, brown and flaky surface that deteriorates the metal's properties. The first step in the corrosion process is the formation of a thin film on the surface of the metal consisting of oxide or sulphide. If this layer is broken, the underlying metal risks being exposed and corroding rapidly. Therefore, it is important to protect metal equipment and components so that they are not destroyed by corrosion.
