Our lubrication expert Mats Inge has been out in the field to take a closer look at how the right rust protection can make a big difference in maintenance work on heavy vehicles.
When dirt, moisture and aggressive road salt accumulate in hidden spaces on heavy vehicles, sooner or later it leads to serious corrosion damage. Protecting exposed components in time solves the problem before it becomes a costly affair of unexpected downtime and repairs - and extends the life of the vehicle.
The challenge: Corrosion-prone hidden spaces
In this specific case, it was a protection plate to be placed between the chassis and the tank of a road tanker. This is an area that, without the right protection, very often suffers from severe corrosion due to the harsh road environment.
The solution: OKS 2551 Zinc Spray (Primer)
To prevent corrosion and ensure permanent rust protection, the OKS 2551 Zinc spray (Primer).
Why OKS 2551 in particular?
- Twice the shelf life: Thanks to a very high zinc content and a smart, self-healing polymer layer, the product performs twice as well in salt spray tests compared to similar alternatives on the market.
- Self-healing properties: Should there be minor mechanical damage to the layer, it is automatically sealed, effectively preventing the rust from spreading below the surface.
Step by step - how to achieve optimal protection
To ensure optimal and long-term protection, the product was applied in the following three steps:
First layer: An even and opaque layer of zinc spray is applied to the surface.
Second layer: After a drying time of about 20 minutes, a second coat is sprayed to build up the correct layer thickness.
Assembly: The protective sheet is fitted in place as soon as it has dried completely.
The result? A protection plate with permanent and robust rust protection, ready to withstand the absolute toughest environments on the road, year after year.
