VpCI 389 is an environmentally friendly water-based temporary coating that provides excellent indoor/outdoor rust protection for most metals. The product has very good protection against saltwater environments. This modern rust protection is advanced and replaces harmful oil-based products. VpCI 389 is an excellent choice for long-term protection indoors (up to 5 years) and for medium-term protection (6-24 months) outdoors.
The product leaves a transparent, waxy surface that is easy to remove. It contains very low levels of VOCs. The product can be easily removed with alkaline detergents, such as Cortec VpCI 414.
Cortec VpCI 389 is delivered in 19 liter cans or 208 liter full drums.
Traditional coatings rely on constituent components such as zinc, chromates and aluminum to be sacrificed in order for underlying layers to be protected. Thanks to the large particle size of these inhibitors, crevices form above the protected metal surface, which allows corrosion / rust to occur. VpCI 389 is built in a completely different way with a tight molecular structure, which means that the gaps are eliminated.
Typical applications:
- Long-term storage of equipment/machines
- Export shipments at sea
- Maintenance / repairs
- Protection of spare parts
- Protection of machines during operation
VpCI 389 is tested with excellent results according to ASTM D-1748 (climate chamber test) and ASTM B-117 (salt spray test). It meets the requirements of ROHS.
The rust prevention group works to prevent rust in companies' process flows, intermediate storage and internal buffering, as well as in connection with deliveries worldwide. With our solid experience in vci rust protection we have helped several companies, large and small, to increase the quality of their deliveries and thus avoid complaints from their customers.
Everyone in the Corrosion Protection Group has good experience of industrial production and of risks and sources of why it starts to rust.
