VpCI 389 is an environmentally friendly water-based temporary coating that provides excellent indoor/outdoor rust protection for most metals. The product has very good protection against salt water environments. This modern rust protection is advanced and replaces harmful oil-based products. VpCI 389 is an excellent choice for long-term indoor protection (up to 5 years) and for medium-term outdoor protection (6-24 months).

The product leaves a transparent, waxy surface that is easy to remove. It contains very low levels of VOCs. The product can be easily removed with alkaline detergents, such as Cortec VpCI 414.
Cortec VpCI 389 is supplied in 19 litre drums or 208 litre drums.
Traditional coatings rely on sacrificing components such as zinc, chromates and aluminium to protect the underlying layer. Due to the large particle size of these inhibitors, gaps are formed above the protected metal surface allowing corrosion/rust to occur. VpCI 389 is built in a completely different way with a tight molecular structure which means that the gaps are eliminated.
Typical applications:
- Long-term storage of equipment/machinery
- Export ships at sea
- Maintenance / repairs
- Protection of spare parts
- Protection of machinery during operation
VpCI 389 is tested with excellent results according to ASTM D-1748 (climatic chamber test) and ASTM B-117 (salt spray test). It fulfils the requirements of ROHS.
The Rust Protection Group works to prevent rust in companies' process flows, intermediate storage and internal buffering, and in connection with deliveries worldwide. With our extensive experience in vci corrosion protection we have helped several companies, large and small, to improve the quality of their deliveries and thus avoid complaints from their customers.
Everyone in the Rust Protection Group has good experience of industrial production and of the risks and sources of rust.
