Background
The customer had developed a system for automatic coupling between tractor and trailer, where a unit with electronics had to be protected against a very aggressive environment for many years.
Silicone mission
To create a permanent corrosion protection in the control unit. Must be able to protect against road salt, rapid temperature changes between cold in -45°C and heat up to 80°C, for at least 20 years. Vibrations would be dampened and some possibility for repair would exist.
Tribotec's solution
RTV12 - low viscosity, transparent, self-adhesive and flexible silicone mass, two-component and room temperature curing. Provides a dry, slightly harder surface. Can be cut afterwards if you want to replace a component. The hole can then be filled with RTV12, as it can bond to an already cured silicone surface, which is very unusual among grouts. Long-term tests on salted and dirty Swedish roads over 1.5 years gave the green light to Tribotec's recommendation.
