What is VCI paper?

Advanced rust protection for metal, fully recyclable

VCI paper is an innovative packaging material that effectively protects metals from corrosion during transport and storage. The paper is treated with VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) technology - active substances that are continuously released and form a protective barrier against moisture and oxidation. The solution works on all metal types including steel, iron, aluminium and alloys. VCI Papers are particularly useful for complex geometries where traditional methods may not work as well.

VCI protective paper offers corrosion protection for a variety of needs, from individual to bulk packaging, including OEM manufacturing and automotive component storage. It also works effectively as a liner for separating goods. Our VCI paper is made from recyclable, neutral kraft paper. Cortec VCI Paper is supplied as:

How do VCI papers work?

VCI papers use a unique two-step process for optimal protection:

  1. Evaporation: The VCI molecules are released and dispersed in the confined space.
  2. Condensation: The molecules adhere to all metal surfaces and form a molecular protective film.

The protection is activated immediately and works even during temperature changes (-20°C to +60°C).

Advantages compared to traditional methods

✔ Full coverage - reaches even interior spaces and narrow gaps.
✔ Maintenance free - no reapplication or extra checks required.
✔ Time efficient - eliminates the need for greasing or drying.
✔ Cost-optimised - reduces returns and damaged goods by up to 90%.
✔ Certified - meets MIL-STD-3010C and ASTM-D3950.
