What is VCI-Foam?

VCI-Foam is an innovative dry anti-corrosion material that effectively protects metals from corrosion during transport and storage. The foam is impregnated with Cortec's advanced Vapour Phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI®) technology with active substances that saturate the air and form an invisible barrier on all metal surfaces.

Effective corrosion protection for industry and exports

VCI-Foam is ideal for complex shapes and delicate electronics that cannot withstand traditional anti-rust oil or grease. The solution acts as a complete multi-metal protection for materials such as steel, iron, aluminium and copper. Cortec VCI-Foam is supplied as:

How does VCI-Foam work?

VCI-Foam uses a unique vapour phase process to provide optimal and long-lasting protection:

  1. Evaporation: The VCI molecules are released and dispersed in the confined space.
  2. Condensation: The molecules adhere to all metal surfaces and form a molecular protective film.

The protection is activated immediately and remains functional during extreme temperature changes (-35 °C to +85 °C).

For which applications is VCI-Foam used?

Choosing the right type of corrosion protection material is an investment. Depending on your industry, VCI-Foam offers unique benefits that streamline handling in the following applications:

Frequently asked questions about rust protection

How long does the protection last?

In a sealed package, VCI-Foam provides active corrosion protection in up to 24 months. When combined with VCI plastics, the protection time can be further extended.

Does VCI-Foam work in high humidity?

Yes, VpCI® technology is extremely effective at high humidity. The molecules neutralise the moisture directly on the metal surface.

When to use VCI-Foam instead of paper?

VCI-Foam should be used when you need both chemical corrosion protection and physical shock absorption. It is ideal for sensitive electronics, complex geometries and large volumes that require high protection. Read more about other corrosion protection for electronics and electrical cabinets.

Can VCI-Foam be combined with other packaging?

Yes, it works great as a ”booster” inside boxes, containers or VCI plastic bags.

Are VCI products safe for the user?

Yes, the Tribotec VCI range is completely free of nitrites and phosphates. The products are safe to handle during packing and storage and do not require special warning labelling.
