Dry rust inhibitors - a versatile solution to prevent corrosion

To protect screws, equipment, components and other metal products in industry from rusting, so-called dry rust inhibitors are used. Usually the corrosion protection consists of a plastic packaging, a bag, where the inside consists of a layer of protective agent against rust. When the bag is sealed, an active process starts where the rust inhibitor leaves the plastic and protects the metal part.

These anti-corrosion packages are based on VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitors) technology and can take the form, for example, of a hood, bag or flat film where the plastic is cut to wrap larger objects to be protected.

When to use dry rust inhibitors?

Dry corrosion protection is great for transporting large and small metal parts by boat or car, but also for storing everything from helicopters to machines and small tools. In other words, anything metal that needs protection from corrosion.

Different packaging methods provide effective protection regardless of the metal object

Our VCI corrosion protection comes in different variants such as:

  • paper on rolls and sheets
  • sealable plastic bags in different sizes
  • flat film in different widths
  • shrink wrapping, where heat is used to create an easy-to-handle package.

This is to suit different types of businesses and applications.

Tribotec offers dry corrosion protection for different needs

At Tribotec, we have a wide range of dry corrosion protection solutions for your business. Whether you need long-term protection in storage or temporary protection in the factory, you'll find what you need:

  • Cortec VCI hood (pallet bag) used in standard pallets as anti-corrosion packaging. Available in a wide range of customised dimensions.
  • Cortec VCI shrink film durable plastic film that provides effective protection when stored outdoors for long periods, or during sea transport.
  • Cortec VCI 105 anti-corrosion emitter plastic box with anti-corrosion powder that is placed in closed spaces such as electrical cabinets and toolboxes. The powder is portioned out and provides excellent protection for metal parts.
  • Cortec VCI paper protective and biodegradable packaging. Can be used on its own or in combination with plastic.

A convenient and environmentally friendly method to protect against rust

There are several advantages to dry rustproofing. The traditional way of rustproofing is to oil the metal part, which takes time and resources as you usually need to wash the product off after use - where the washing itself can pose environmental risks. If you were to use dry rustproofing for transport instead, you would not need to wash the item and could instead unpack it and start using it straight away.

VCI packaging is also made of polythene plastic, which is recyclable. So with dry corrosion protection, you save time, money and impact on the environment.
