What is VCI oil-based corrosion protection?

Oil-based VCI combines the barrier of oil or wax with advanced VpCI® technology. It creates a powerful bearing protection that not only insulates the metal surface from moisture, but also disperses an anti-corrosion vapour into all nooks and crannies.

Oil-based VCI corrosion protection for outdoor storage and lubrication systems

VCI Oil-based combines the physical barrier of oil or wax with Cortec's advanced VpCI® (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) technology. The anti-corrosion vapour method is an effective solution for extreme challenges such as long-term outdoor storage, demanding marine transport or internal protection of gearboxes and hydraulic systems. Cortec VCI-Oil based corrosion protection is available as:

How does VCI Oil-based work?

VCI oil-based protectors use a unique two-step process for optimal protection:

      1. Evaporation: VCI molecules are continuously released and dispersed in the enclosed space until the atmosphere is saturated.
      2. Condensation: The molecules adhere to all metal surfaces and form a molecular protective film.

For which applications are VCI oil-based products used?

Oil-based VCIs are often chosen when more protection is required than plastic or paper can offer. Depending on your industry or sector, there are a number of specific benefits that will secure your operations:

What are the advantages compared to traditional methods?

Switching to a VCI-based approach directly improves the efficiency of maintenance work and brings many benefits:

✔ Protects hidden cavities - Thanks to the vapour phase, even surfaces that the oil does not reach during application are protected.

✔ Easier commissioning - Many solutions are compatible with system oils and do not need to be washed off before starting the machine.

✔ Process friendly - For applications requiring welding or painting, the wax films can be easily removed with standard washing liquids.

✔ Environmentally smart options - We offer bio-based alternatives for businesses with high environmental standards.

✔ Quality assured technology - Nitrite-free solutions that fulfil ISO requirements, REACH and RoHS.

Frequently asked questions about VCI oil-based rust inhibitor

Does oil-based VCI need to be washed off before use?
